Arts & Crafts

Calm, relaxed creativity

A variety of art and craft work takes place here, including sewing, quilting, knitting, and making pom-poms, making bags, cushions, and bead curtains. Some students also enjoy sequin art, engraving, and card making as well as drawing, printing, and other canvas-based projects.

This is a very popular and busy department well-loved by many students who produce some amazing work.

There is always a feeling of calm and relaxation in this creative department. Each student has the choice of working on an individual piece of work or being part of a group project.

Therapeutic value

Our students are always getting involved in big projects for special occasions, such as Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and any other events on the farm.

All students are encouraged to work towards independence in whatever project they are doing. Some students like to help others around them who are less able than themselves. The therapeutic value of the creative artwork is of great value to all our students. This is especially evident in those students who are unable or find it difficult to express their feelings verbally.

The atmosphere of quiet contentment in the Arts & Crafts department reflects the student’s pleasure in their work.

Working with others

Whatever work a student is doing, they are experiencing working closely with others. Some students enjoy this, and it helps with communication and social skills, while others prefer a little space of their own.

This is a very happy, forward-looking department, always in demand with a high level of student participation in planning all projects and events.

Book a visit and a free taster day

If you are interested in a place, you can book a visit to see the Centre and what we do. Visits are usually booked at 10.30 am or 1.30pm and you are welcome to come with or without the student. We will take you on a tour of the farm and show you our wonderful site.

After your visit you will receive an application pack to complete and the student can join us for a free Taster Day, to see the different the activities and get to know our staff so they feel comfortable there.

Once the placement has been agreed by Social Services and care managers, then the students can start attending.
